SPY PICS! Secret New KTM Adventure Tourer

Photographers have apaprently captured spy images of a prototype motorcycle on a test track that is suspected of being the long-rumored KTM Adventure 1290.

Published by Italian site InfoMotori, the photos reveal a large V-Twin engine, a wire-spoke front wheel, and KTM‘s telltale orange frame. The profile resembles KTM’s current Adventure 99o, but the fairing is more angular.

A leaked KTM Powerpoint slide identified the Adventure 1290 as a 2014 model. Sources say that slide also listed an Adventure R 1090, which will likely be a more off-road worthy version which would replace the 990, and a Super Duke R 1290 which will likely use the same engine as this prototype.

The Adventure 1290 would give KTM a big-twin competitor in the adventure-touring segment against models such as the BMW R1200GS, Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200, and Yamaha Super Ténéré.
